The University of Guadalajara at Los Angeles (UDGLA) is now accepting nominations of outstanding UDG graduates living in the United States for the Galardón Honorífico Enrique Díaz de León 2010 award.

Last year was the first time that the award had been given to a former student who works abroad. This milestone was achieved because the UDG Graduates and Alumni Office and the University of Guadalajara at Los Angeles extended the call for nominations to the Los Angeles area as part of their outreach initiative with the University community.

Sara Poot, professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, received the Galardón Honorífico, 2009, along with four other outstanding University alumni, at a presentation ceremony held on May 7, 2010 at UDG's Enrique Díaz de León Auditorium in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

This award is the most prestigious recognition for UDG alumni and was created to honor excellence in teaching, academics and other good work achieved by the University’s former students. Given the significant number of professionals who earned degrees from UDG now living in the United States, especially in California, the University is interested in establishing contact with members of the University community abroad who have made significant contributions in either Mexico or in the communities where they now reside.

Candidates for the Galardón Honorífico Universitario Enrique Díaz de León 2010 can be graduates from any degree program of the University of Guadalajara who have carried out distinguished activities in the areas of teaching, research and/or outreach (as well as community service programs or projects that the University offers through its academic departments).

Nominations must be submitted by third parties such as professional associations, alumni associations or public and private institutions.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, October 15, 2010.
