Mexican chapter of the Mexican American Bar Association inaugurated

The Board of Trustees of the Mexican chapter of the Mexican American Bar Association (MABA) was officially inaugurated and sworn in on March 21, 2009. The Board is made up of leading figures from the legal, business and academic fields who have an interest in providing Mexican immigrants in the United States with legal assistance.
The inauguration, which was held at the “Mariano Azuela Rivera” Casa de la Cultura Jurídica of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, officially began the work of MABA-Mexico, whose aim is to strengthen bonds of friendship and partnership with lawyers from MABA-USA through a high-quality academic exchange program and community service projects, in addition to supporting and providing social assistance.
MABA’s Board of Trustees is led by Carlos Eduardo Moyado Zapata, President, and Gustavo Padilla Montes, Vice-President, who is also Executive Director of the University of Guadalajara at Los Angeles (UDGLA). The Board and Committees of MABA are made up of 33 distinguished professionals.
The objectives of MABA’s Mexican chapter are as follows:
1. To update and disseminate multi-disciplinary legal studies on strategic topics.
2. To contribute to the strengthening of bi-national relations between Mexico and the United States.
3. To foster comprehensive and relevant training in law-related disciplines in which common interests exist.
4. To support the enforcement of laws and the legal system and to fight against breeches of public safety.
5. To promote the ethical principles that will contribute to the honor and dignity of the legal profession.
6. To develop programs and services that aid community development.
7. To support programs and activities which entail academic and professional mobility and exchange between organizations, professional associations and law schools in both countries.
The Mexican American Bar Association was founded in 1957 in the United States with the objective of providing legal counsel, guidance and support to illegal immigrants in matters ranging from immigration, welfare and community service to education through scholarships for Latino students.
MABA's membership includes distinguished lawyers working in many facets of the legal profession, including trial lawyers, prosecutors, judges, government officials as well as lawyers who are prominent social leaders.
